Get Skilled to Create Engaging e-Learning

Integrated Learnings

by Jonathan Shoaf. Many of us know the common scenarios. Victor has a great PowerPoint deck on the new widget. Make it available online. Sally created some great videos on changes to the old process. Post those on the corporate site. Work with Jordan to put the face-to-face training in Adobe Captivate so we can roll it out to the rest of the organization at low cost.

Supporting the Social Workplace Learning Continuum

Jane Hart

In my previous blog post I explained how I recognized it is difficult for a lot of organisations to support informal and social learning in their organisations, because they are unable to jump the two mindset hurdles of (a) thinking that learning only happens in training courses, and (b) that all organisational learning needs to be controlled by Training/L&D departments.

Why I disagree with Mark Zuckerberg who claims the iPad isn’t mobile [Poll]

mLearning Revolution

'I came across this interesting article on Forbes.com, which also includes a short video (below) of Mark Zuckerberg answering a question from the audience and basically saying that the iPad is not mobile. The question was about whether Facebook would build an iPad app, which at the time of the question (November 2010) it didn’t exist. The author argues that Facebook’s lack of a mobile story should terrify investors, especially now that Facebook is a public company.

by AJ George  I have previously written about ways to  manipulate images on a budget  so that graphics that are perhaps not all uniform looking can look more like they belong together. Recently I stumbled upon another fun (and free!) tool for editing images,  vintageJS , which quickly and easily gives photos a vintage feeling with adjustable settings.

Boom Town: Another win for HTML5. A good thing for mLearning [video]

mLearning Revolution

'I’m not a coder, nor am I much of a gamer but I would imagine that with all the interactivity that games include, it must be fairly complicated to develop one. Perhaps this is why game developers have thus far gravitated toward developing games as native apps. Perhaps HTML5 technologies weren’t ready for primetime. Maybe this is about to change.

Technology Has Upped the Sales Training Ante

dVinci Interactive

Ten years ago, customers had few resources for comparison shopping. Most of them relied on salespeople for information. Now, customers can get product details, price guides, reviews and more with a swipe of their smart phone. Technology hasn’t made salespeople obsolete. But it has raised the bar. I know when I consider a purchase, I expect salespeople to be smarter than ever, not just about their own products and services but also those of competitors.

PowerPoint: Shakespeak for Presentations

Getting Pragmatic About Informal

Clark Quinn

In my post on reconciling informal and informal, I suggested that there are practical things L&D groups can do about informal learning. I’ve detected a fair bit of concern amongst L&D folks that this threatens their jobs, and I think that’s misplaced. Consequently, I want to get a wee bit more specific than what I said then: they can make courses about how to use social media better (not everyone knows how to communicate and collaborate well ). share best practices. wor

My take was that organizations have to become in a more organic relationship with their ecosystem by empowering their people to engage and act. His final message was that the learning community are the folks who have to figure this out and engage.

A defence of the “Next” button

E-Learning Provocateur

The “Next” button doesn’t have many friends in the e-learning community. The humble yet shiny arrow is associated with boring page turners. Hell-bent on avoiding the “Next” button, many instructional designers will delinearise the content by creating a course homepage with a raft of topics represented by funky icons. The learner is free to explore and discover the knowledge contained therein at their convenience and – more importantly – at their discreti

Can Brain Science Actually Help Make Your Training & Teaching Stick?

The instructor’s PPT slides are brilliant. You’ve splurged on the expensive interactive courseware. Student engagement is stellar. So… why are half of your students still forgetting everything they learned in just a matter of weeks? It's likely a matter of cognitive science!
