Integrate Your E-Learning with Google Docs

Integrated Learnings

by Jonathan Shoaf. A good developer is always looking to improve a course offering. Before the course goes out, we may run a pilot or find some testers to give us feedback and look for errors. However, there is no better feedback you can get than from the learners who take the course themselves. They are some of the most qualified responders to tell you if the course is adequate for their job role and whether or not the course was easy and intuitive to follow.

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

by Jennie Ruby What role, if any, should humor play in technical and training materials? When writing training materials, I am always looking for new ways to introduce a lesson and keep the tone engaging. Much of the way we think about how to make organizations successful and sustainable and, certainly, the way we think about globablization and helping consumers and entrepreneurs at the bottom-of-the-pyramid is due to the influence of CK Prahalad.

Adobe FrameMaker: File Info and MetaData and PDFs. Oh My!

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

by Barbara Binder As a long-time Adobe Acrobat instructor, I've spent many hours showing Acrobat students how to modify and enhance their PDF documents. They learn how to add bookmarks, links, movies, document properties, and more. These are great features that should be part of any interactive PDF document, but if you put them directly into the PDF, you will overwrite them if you ever have to enter corrections into the source file and then regenerate the PDF.

Narrative for Engaging eLearning

Recently I made a presentation at IDCI about the basic differences between simulations and games, meant predominantly for beginner learning designers. At the end of the presentation I spoke about five ways to bring more gaminess into the learning interactions being designed by the IDs. One point I made was about the use of ‘narrative’ or ‘stories’. (I use them interchangeably, as they mean pretty much the same to me, perhaps wrongly.

Sign-offs for e-Learning Courses

eLearning Cyclops

When creating e-learning courses I ask stakeholders to sign-off on the final product. This is only after the review process is complete. Very often the stakeholders are also the subject matter experts for the course. Either way, I find that a sign-off provides confidence for me and my team that the course meets the approval and needs of the stakeholder, the content is accurate, and that we have a commitment from the stakeholders/SMEs for future reviews.
