We have been experimenting with development of Augmented Reality [AR] applications for some time now. Earlier this week we released the first Indian Layar app called Pune Layar and had earlier created a simple Car Game using FLARToolkit. While developing these applications we considered many alternative tools & technologies to develop such applications for learning.

However, there is no better feedback you can get than from the learners who take the course themselves. They are some of the most qualified responders to tell you if the course is adequate for their job role and whether or not the course was easy and intuitive to follow.

When writing training materials, I am always looking for new ways to introduce a lesson and keep the tone engaging. Moodle is a good LMS with which has grown over the years and offers a host of functionality and features that are very useful to have in an LMS. Add to it the fact that its open source which makes it free to use, has made it very popular. Moodle has been able to sustain itself and keep evolving through its community, resulting in its emergence as a good option for anyone wanting to use an LMS.

by Kevin Siegel. If you've included a Table of Contents (TOC) in your Captivate project, there are two important Run Time Options that you'll find interesting: Self Paced Learning and Navigation. Choose Project > Table of Contents to display the TOC tab of the Skin Editor. If necessary, select Show TOC to enable the TOC. Click the Settings button in the lower left of the dialog box.

As the very first delivery sign-off mails for the project I have been working on started flowing in this morning, I was reminded of my initial days on this project. When I was the sole individual sent as a consultant to the client site to ideate and…well…consult. And I realized that it has been exactly 9 months—almost to the day—that we are delivering the baby.

Sadly, Acrobat isn't free and not everyone owns it. People who do not have Acrobat still need to work with PDF files, which is where Adobe's free Acrobat Reader comes in.

We believe Layar , the AR browser can have a significant role to play in mobile learning. We have been playing with Layar for a some weeks now and yesterday we released a layer for Pune city. This is our first public layer which would be useful for the public as well as (hopefully) provide us valuable feedback about Layar development. by Barbara Binder As a long-time Adobe Acrobat instructor, I've spent many hours showing Acrobat students how to modify and enhance their PDF documents. They learn how to add bookmarks, links, movies, document properties, and more. These are great features that should be part of any interactive PDF document, but if you put them directly into the PDF, you will overwrite them if you ever have to enter corrections into the source file and then regenerate the PDF.

Recently I made a presentation at IDCI about the basic differences between simulations and games, meant predominantly for beginner learning designers. At the end of the presentation I spoke about five ways to bring more gaminess into the learning interactions being designed by the IDs. One point I made was about the use of ‘narrative’ or ‘stories’. (I use them interchangeably, as they mean pretty much the same to me, perhaps wrongly.

Since the email went out here at college offering staff the opportunity to apply for funded learning projects I have so far received a number of applications. For each of these I arranged an initial meeting where we discussed the level of funding, which takes the form of hours that would be paid for development time, plus any resource costing. While venturing into a 3D world is interesting, exciting and opens all sorts of possibilities, it is equally as exciting to have a 3D world surround you. And while some people believe that the 3D and virtual world "bubbles" have popped , I'm not one of those people. There are too many happenings in and initiatives in 3D gaming for me not to believe that a 3D-revolution is very, very close.

When creating e-learning courses I ask stakeholders to sign-off on the final product. This is only after the review process is complete. Very often the stakeholders are also the subject matter experts for the course. Either way, I find that a sign-off provides confidence for me and my team that the course meets the approval and needs of the stakeholder, the content is accurate, and that we have a commitment from the stakeholders/SMEs for future reviews.

One of the things that Tony and I encouraged in our book, Learning in 3D was for the formation of "book clubs" to read the book. We feel strongly that the conversation around learning and collaborating in 3D is just getting started and the more folks who are intelligently speaking about the concept and ideas of 3D learning and collaboration, the more the field will advance and flourish.
