How To: Design, Develop and Deliver eLearning

B Online Learning

Perhaps the mystery and hyperbole that surrounds so many new technology based solutions is inevitable. Perhaps people are intimidated by the “newness” and fear investing on the “bleeding” edge. Perhaps they have had their fingers burned in the past. A cynic might even argue that there are vested interests in the form of specialist consultants [.].

A Time Saving Assessment

Upside Learning

In my last post ‘ 5 Tips for Proofreading Your Own eLearning Content ’ I requested you to get into the Proofreaders shoes. Today, I implore you to wear the learner’s. Many courses when converted from conventional learning methods to eLearning modules end up greatly saving the learner’s time. Well, my intention is not to go on and on about the time saving virtues of eLearning, those are too obvious, otherwise eLearning wouldn’t have taken such great strides.

10 mLearning Lessons I Learned from reading Mobile First by Luke Wroblewski [Book Review]

mLearning Revolution

'I love Mobile and everything that it represents. I like the physicality of touch, the idea that nothing gets in the way of me and my content, no keyboard, no mouse, no stylus, no usb ports for a microphone or webcam to connect to, nothing but touch. I enjoy the simplicity of mobile. Some of my favorite apps, such as Clear, Snapguide and Snapseed have one thing in common, they are simple, innovative and yet they do amazing things without much effort from me.

Front-End Analysis: Improving Performance

Dashe & Thomson

As I am straddling the line between performance improvement and instructional design, I have been mulling over the use of Front-End Analysis and thinking about whether it would apply to the performance problems that we so often see associated with implementing ERP systems. Front-end analysis is actually part of the Human Performance Technology (HPT) model, which is a systematic approach to improving productivity and competence.

Adobe Captivate 6: The Theme for Today is Consistency!

If you are creating a software simulation, the background is typically the application being simulated so that's one less thing you have to worry about.

You know you’re mobile when…

Clark Quinn

I was thinking about the different ways you can be mobile, and I think it’s broader than most people think. So I tried to capture it in a diagram. For once, I’m not particularly happy with it, but in the spirit of ‘thinking out loud’… The notion is there that you’re mobile when you’re not at your desk with your desktop or even laptop.

Microsoft Office: 2013 Open for Preview

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

by AJ George  Last week  Microsoft announced its latest version of Microsoft Office  and opened it for  customer preview. If, however, you're still running Windows XP or Vista, you're out of luck, as Office 2013 is only being offered for users running Windows 7 or newer. While it does not improve many application features, Office 2013 does clarify what Microsoft plans to do in the cloud to compete with Google's cloud services.  Office 2013 is still being

Comes with Training Included

dVinci Interactive

When I buy a new product, I’m often surprised how primitive the approaches are to educating me about my purchase. When I got my Chevy Traverse, it included a DVD player, but no instructional video to play on it. It would have been great to have a video overview of my new vehicle and how to locate and use some of the features. I received four different manuals that barely fit in my glove compartment when I would have preferred a mobile app for my iPhone.

Culture Change Can Stick

The Performance Improvement Blog

Lasting culture change is possible in organizations that have lost their way if they focus on current successes and start small. This is the message of an HBR article by by Jon R. Katzenbach, Ilona Steffen, and Caroline Kronley titled, Cultural Change That Sticks: Start With What’s Already Working. They write: It’s tempting to dwell on the negative traits of your culture, but any corporate culture is a product of good intentions that evolved in unexpected ways and will have many strengths.

WARNING: An LMS Is NOT One Size Fits All

LearnDash

Today I came to realize that much of the literature out there today regarding learning management systems is often written from the “utopia” perspective, rather than the practical. What I mean by this is that many of the descriptions and suggestions for LMS implementations are good in theory, but often nearly impossible to pull off. This isn’t to say that consultants should not strive to implement a robust LMS with a central interactive component to their culture – but they should be realistic.

Teacher or educator?

Learning with e's

Everyone is a teacher. We all have the ability to help others to learn. This is exactly what Vygotsky had in mind when he proposed his famous Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) theory. Children (and adults too) can learn more broadly, deeply and extensively if they have a knowledgeable person by their side, than they can on their own. In our society, we often think of that knowledgeable other person as a professional educator, a tutor, lecturer or classroom teacher.
