'On Tuesday, with a big presentation, the American Society for Training & Development announced a rebranding. The new name is the Association for Talent Development, going from ASTD to ATD. And while this is a necessary move, I think it wasn’t the best change they could’ve made. ASTD needed the change, for two reasons. For one, ASTD has membership in, and runs events, around the world.

'One of the challenges with elearning program implementations is finding a way to solicit feedback that is both constructive and actionable, and most of the feedback that is obtained is generally from alpha and beta testers at the earlier point in the program. These reviews are good, but they typically only provide feedback in relation to delivery and not necessarily the usefulness of the content.

'Julie Dirksen is some kind of eLearning hero. I have read a lot about her (and from her) but never attended a presentation by her. She is one of the instigators of the serious elearning manifesto. She didn’t disappoint me. She is one of the people that has to leave out a lot of stuff, because they only have 75 minutes and she is a good and funny presenter.

'Here is my recap of the Washington ASTD ICE 2014 conference. This was my second ICE conference (did Dallas last year), it was huge and it was interesting. Most of the sessions were very good (just a few disappointed me). I did find it different from last year. I’m always looking for trends and found four major ones: Big-Data, Speed of Change, Leadership Development and Retention.

I do believe that curation will be one of the future skills of any elearning professional. I have put my notes in the mind map below.
