Want ‘Facebook’ In Your LMS?

Upside Learning

One of the perks of being involved in a sales role is the interesting and enriching conversations with clients and prospects. I find such interactions extremely rewarding as they give an insight into whatthe real customer demands are and what we need to focus on. It also helps in creating material that educates customers and addresses their needs in a more organized fashion.

Resources from my presentation at Innovations in e-learning Symposium

Kapp Notes

Once again, hats of to Chris St. John and the group for a wonderful conference at George Mason University. The Innovations in E-Learning Symposium is really a top notch conference, small, intimate but with great attendees and speakers and I really like how both industry old timers (like me) and Ph.D. candidates both get a chance at the podium, good mix of professionals in our field.

Evaluating Training Through Stories

The Performance Improvement Blog

Participants rated the management training program 4.3 on a five-point scale. Sixty percent said that they have applied the training to their work. What do we know about effectiveness of the program? Not much. We cannot determine from this data if the management training program made a difference for the organization. If it didn't make a difference, there is little reason to continue to offer the program to managers in the same form.

Games in Learning: Review of Grockit.com

Dashe & Thomson

Those of you who visit the Social Learning Blog frequently will know by now that I’ve been on something of a “games-in-learning” kick for a while. One major reason, of course, is that games represent one of the cutting-edge aspects of our industry, and our blog seeks to explore anything that’s new and exciting. Another reason, though – and this coincidentally helps to explain the appeal of games to learners in the first place – is that it’s such a fun topic to write about.

New eLearning Tools Roundup – #ASTD2011

Learning Visions

I spent most of my time at ASTD ICE on the Expo floor. Our booth was in eLearning Alley – along with Allen Interactions, Articulate and the eLearning Brothers. There were a lot of new authoring tools on the show floor this year. Here’s a quick run down on the tools I checked out and some of the buzz: Articulate Storyline Tom Kuhlmann and Dave Anderson of Articulate were showing off their new tool, Storyline, which goes into beta this summer.

Dealing with blog spam

I’m sure this question has been asked many, many times before, but if anyone can recommend a really effective, free, anti-spam plugin for WordPress, please let me know.

Adobe Captivate 5.5: Round and Round We Go.

The Logical Blog by IconLogic

by Kevin Siegel One of the shortcomings with working with objects in Adobe Captivate has always been the inability to control the rotation of a selected object. Beginning with Captivate 5, you could flip or rotate an image via the Properties panel. In fact, there are four tools in Captivate 5 and 5.5 allowing you to flip an image horizontally or vertically, as well as rotate right or left.

Writing & Grammar: Results from the Department of Redundancy Department

by Jennie Ruby. The results of last week's redundancy contest were astonishing. We received several replies, all of them excellent improvements on the original redundant (and wordy) example. If You Keep Practicing, You Will Get the Hang of It (or Thumbs Up for Rock and Roll!)

Dashe & Thomson

. For the last couple of summers I’ve played in an “over 40” adult soccer league. Last summer, I scored my first and only goal. It’s not that I’m skilled by any means; I just happened to be in the right spot at the right time and had the presence of mind to aim and kick toward the goal. Unfortunately, the rest of the time I run around the field like a chicken with my head cut off (a metaphor that I can picture all too well after spending summer days as a youth on my aunt’s farm).
