More and more, we depend on digital agents to help us navigate that ‘data stream’ and glean information from it, and then to make sense of it. These digital agents can be looked at simply as computer programs that are connected to the information resources of the inter-webs, they could reside on your mobile phone as an application or accessed as one might a ‘cloud service’.

We began to blend training with some on-line content. It was good stuff. It was sexy. It was Flash-based; top drawer content, and we wound up perpetuating performance impact shortfalls with much greater efficiency. We were deploying learning. We were not implementing learning, and there is a significant difference between the two. We decided that the problem was based upon not being able to get to the “next level” of training.

This Saturday I am running my first ever International Length Triathlon in Atlantic City, NJ. Yes, I am going to swim one mile, bike 20 and then run 6.2 miles. I am optimistic that I will be able to complete the entire ordeal race in under 3 hours. Unlike SWFs, projects published as HTML5 will not only play on the Apple  iPad, iPhone and the iPod, but the lessons will retain any interactivity that you added to the slides (such as click boxes and buttons).

These ideas originated in work done by Mark Lepper, a researcher from Stanford University and Thomas Malone also a researcher from Stanford who’s work includes extensive investigations into why games are fun and motivational. Some may ask, “Why build a custom one when you could just use the built in interaction widgets?” For my project, I found the built in interaction widgets limited. I needed 9 tabs and the widget maxed out at 5. Also, the widget resized/stretched my images weird and limited me on positioning them.
