Some Thoughts On Failure

Upside Learning

I’ll admit it; I failed miserably at something this week. After having labored over a presentation, the elements of which I’ve been obsessing about and researching for more than a few days, I found I couldn’t tie them together into a cohesive vision. Without a vision, there was nothing to articulate in the presentation. Result? – failure; and in a way that I found disappointing after spending so much time thinking of ways to tie the elements together, coming up with a theme, and a presentation s

Lurking is Not a Static State

Lurking and its role in communities has been on the forefront of my mind for the past few days. It has received a lot of attention in the past from the thought leaders in the realm of learning and the role of communities in personal as well as organizational learning. I have recently taken on enterprise community facilitation and was curious to see how people are interacting on our enterprise collaboration platform.

Social Learning: to be or not to be?

Success is Half Strategy, Half Execution, and Half Culture

The Performance Improvement Blog

It sounds like something Yogi Berra said. Regardless of whether or not he did, it’s an engaging way for Martin Ashcroft, Editor-In-Chief of Business Excellence , to begin a post about the relationship between strategy, execution, and culture and how our thinking about these aspects of organization success have changed over time. Strategy and execution are certainly important, but without a culture that supports employee engagement, long-term success is unlikely.

Player Types/Levels in Educational Video Games

To start with, when creating an educational game, the various skill levels of current and future players must be considered. The approach taken to motive and attract a new or novice player needs to be different from the approach used to hold onto players who consider themselves masters of the game. For a novice, an important first step is to guide them into the game gently but with a great deal of attraction and interest.

Social learning is not the same as social media

Clive on Learning

I have noticed in recent discussions just how confusing it can get when social learning is regarded as synonymous with the use of social media. First of all, social learning pre-dates social media by thousands of years. We have always and always will learn socially. It isn't the only way we learn but it is a highly significant element. Secondly, social media has very many outcomes other than learning.
