You would categorize the space from faceless (WebEx) to 3D/complex (Second Life) and your solution is this new category of approachable 3D. You get the feeling of presence and personality, without the complexities of Second Life. For example, if you build something that integrates with Facebook, Twitter, etc. If you can integrate with Facebook, Twitter, or similar products and you have some kind of viral aspect, then that could make you more interesting.

But right now, a distributed discussion is hard to effectively track. Going back through the back chat / back channel during my presentation was really interesting to me. Since I couldn't read it at the same time I was presenting, it was amazing how much conversation was going on among the participants.
