Most e-learning developers assume the availability of the free Flash plug-in on the learner's browser. Some mobile devices may support Flash, others don't. The Apple iPad, iPhone and iPod are examples where your Flash elements simply won't work. Apple proposes that you use HTML5 instead, to build rich interfaces.

So, simplicity was there for the author, but at the cost of effective learner engagement. To combat “boring” eLearning experiences, programs like Adobe Flash and Director came on the scene with an animated bang (anyone else remember the bird crash vector animation from the early Flash demos?)

Flash vs. videos Videos are best presented in the MP4 format as compared to Flash animations. Flash will not work on BlackBerry and Apple iPhone/iPod devices. Differences in screen size for various types of mobiles and the availability of various apps have also made Flash a less relevant option.
