Now with the proliferation of digital cinema and insanely capable special effects and CGI tools, filmmakers can create anything on screen with a robust computer and plenty of time and tech skills. Clearly things are swinging the other way, and smart companies will catch the vision and realize spending more money on their eLearning will still save them money over traditional ILT, while proliferating a greater public image and net ROI than traditional marketing in the long run.

As technology has evolved in the training space, we as learning professionals now have an opportunity to make our instructor led training (ILT) – be it virtual or in person – agile as well. While my dream is that one day our data will drive impactful ROI analysis, the fact of the matter is the world of learning isn’t prepared to make that leap yet. What they are ready for is better ILT experiences. Wouldn’t you then be taking your ILT into an agile state?

Pre-built courses might look cost-effective initially but will not cater to varying learning needs of the workforce. Creating custom eLearning solutions anchor a plethora of business and learners’ needs to derive desired training goals with optimum ROI. While ILT or VLT are impactful means of eLearning training , there could be a section of learners that would be interested to consume content in some other format, like videos, gamification or simulation.

We recently had the opportunity to partner with a company that provides solely instructor-led training (ILT). To learn more about our new partner, I did some research on companies that focus primarily on ILT. My first Google search turned up this ambitious marketing assertion: Instructor-led training is considered to be the most effective method of corporate education, as it best facilitates real-time interaction, in-depth information sharing and direct response to questions.

Over the past decade or so, corporate training has gone through several iterations, moving from in-class, Instructor-Led Training (ILT) to Virtual-ILT and ultimately to 100% Self-Directed Learning with little or no instructor-led components. However, Blended Training is being acknowledged as an optimal approach for online training – delivering benefits from both ILT and 100% self-directed training models. This scalability improves the ROI on this training spend.
