Personal Work and Learning Environments (PWLE) - More Discussion

Tony Karrer

I've run across a few different posts talking about Personal Work and Learning Environments which I have tentatively started to call PWLE - pronounced p-whale. The reason why I think it's worth us talking about tools and maps and basically what is your PWLE (p-whale) is that it's helpful for us to figure out how to support our own personal work and learning. There's a great deal of discussion about whether or not a PLE should be a single tool or a collection of tools loosely joined.

I just saw a post by George Siemens discussing evolution of PLE concept and pointed me to two posts by Chris Lott based on his initial question - "What does your PLE look like?" - Tired of PLE Flak and I'm not interested in the PLE which then pointed me to a bunch of other posts as well - on the PLE and An audit on where stand with PLEs.

I'm hoping to address questions such as: How do you create a personal tool set or Personal Learning Environment (PLE) for yourself? Tools to Make Reading & Research More Effective. This sounds a lot like a personal learning environment, personal knowledge management (PKM) and personal work and learning environment (PWLE) and PIM. The same tool and method can be highly effective for one person and not effective for others.

Downes, Theory of Learning Networks, 2004) PLE functions: aggregate remix repurpose feed forward It's interesting to see this perspective on the PLE where it is part of the Connectivism course and students are naturally motivated (or required) to share. When I look at this from more the PWLE ( Personal WORK and learning environment ) perspective, I find that there are similar functions, but possibly a different mind set.
