I bring this up, because after it was announced that Cornerstone will be acquiring SumTotal, the pundits went out and espoused some very interesting ideas. The L&D ripple effect with the LMS, a combo delight for some, showed up too. I never put innovation and SumTotal in the same sentence. SumTotal was never innovative.

I didn’t get to see the mobile piece, but I surmise it will be similar in many ways to MCs version which was always slick. Blue Ocean is used in the consumer marketplace all the time and is a very effective strategy. Thus, you have a version for a smartphone and another for a tablet. Who are they going to land quickly?

Q: Saba, SumTotal, Cornerstone, Taleo, SuccessFactors must be the best because a lot of people buy these systems. Market themselves effectively. Do not assume that your vendor or potential vendor will work with an earlier version of Flash, Windows or even IE. . Well Known Systems. High brand recognition.

In reading about Cornerstone’s acquisition of SumTotal, I thought about the customers I have worked with over the years as they embarked (willingly or not) into migrations and transitions from one LMS to another. If your content is mission critical, ensuring you are delivering the correct version of content is imperative.

What is the minimum browser(s) version and which ones will it work with? Vendors love to say browser agnostic, but trust me, nobody is accepting IE version 6 here. Access competes well against SuccessFactors, SumTotal, Kallidus and Talent LMS. #9 They compete well against, SuccessFactors, SumTotal, Gloat, EdCast TXP.
