Examples of eLearning 2.0

Clark Quinn

During my presentation last Thursday that was an introduction to eLearning 2.0 as part of an online event for the eLearningGuild, I mentioned a few common ways that I've seen eLearning 2.0 I always suggest people shouldn't try to come up with a big eLearning 2.0

Good Questions Identify eLearning 2.0 Opportunities

Clark Quinn

I'm a big fan of questions (see Better Questions for Learning Professionals ) and as I'm preparing a workshop ( Revolution in Workplace Learning ) one of the things I stumbled upon is what seems to be a great new question: Given that eLearning 2.0 (web web 2.0, wikis, blogs, social networking, etc.) There must be new questions that we need to ask in order to figure out if and how eLearning 2.0 • So, what questions do you ask to identify eLearning 2.0

Janet juxtaposes the recent inclusion of eLearning 2.0 The questions she raises are: Is the edupunk ideology saying that the use of social media in commercial learning management systems is an assault on the very philosophy of learning 2.0? If you're a trainer embracing learning 2.0, These are fair questions that are also central to the issues of the Enterprise 2.0

eLearning 2.0 Random Thoughts based on Chat

Tony Karrer

One interesting result is that the audience for my eLearning 2.0 Social Bookmarking and Wikis and Blogs are a form of social networking I never said this, but several people pointed it out in the chat. I certainly talk about a big part of the value of blogs being building a network. Most of us blog to Learn and Network. Although the brain isn't fast in comparison to computer hardware systems we have today, it has several key abilities that computers don't currently have. The brain supports heavy parallel processing capabilities, which means we (unlike current computer systems) can, in mere seconds, recognize complex patterns within images.

Formal learning & social networking

Clark Quinn

After hearing Mark Oehlert and Brent Schlenker do such a great job on eLearning 2.0 Much of elearning 2.0 is about informal learning, but the organization was moving to using social networking tools to scaffold their move from face-to-face to more online learning. So I was asked to talk about social networking and formal learning. I started from the informal picture, however, both to introduce the 2.0

Pre-network with LinkedIn

Tony Karrer

Generally, it's a commitment of 3-4 hours between driving, networking, program. I have to make sure that I get at least as much value from that 3-4 hours as I would from spending the same time using LinkedIn for Networking – and that's tough competition. I've found that it suggests that it's not going to be a good group and I definitely won't be able to pre-network so even if it's a good group, it will be hard for me to get much value from the group. eLearning Technology.

Biases that eLearning 2.0 Faces (or What We Are Up Against)

Tony Karrer

Saw a post in the eLearningAll group that expresses a lot of the biases that exist in the world of eLearning around eLearning 2.0 approaches: Before you "optimize eLearning" through the use of Wikis, Blogs, PodCasts, video feeds, IMs, XML, SOAP, AJAX, and other "new"/"improved" methods, it is really important to understand: 1. How can these "optimize eLearning" 2. If you go to the Brandon-Hall network, you'll be amazed how many postings are of this character.

Word of mouth communities and networks using social software are increasingly spread over regional, national, and international borders, making them much more important to those who market branded products and services, online and off. Micro to Macro

eLearning Weekly

I started in the world of computer science and web programming, but quickly transitioned to educational technology and then eLearning. Building eLearning courses came naturally to me because I was used to building web sites and web applications. I had a micro focus on eLearning; I was intently concentrated on a very small piece of the overall learning and development picture. I now see greater value in relationships and networking both inside and outside of our company.

Find Speaker for Local ASTD Chapter

Tony Karrer

But in the cases where that's not going to work out, I would really like to help the person find a speaker who is local and who can speak to the issues around eLearning 2.0 , Work Literacy , etc. This is similar to the issue being discussed as part of this month's Big Question - Network Feedback and in Getting Help. I've been approached quite a bit recently to do presentations at local ASTD chapters or to help find a speaker.
