I have always believed that the present economic slowdown would positively benefit the eLearning industry in the long run. There have been several recent surveys to suggest the same (two of them are mentioned in the latter half of this post) and now, a ValueNotes report released in May 2009 specifically examines the status of the Indian eLearning outsourcing industry and predicts a high rate of growth until 2012, despite the current recession.

Elliott asked for a show of hands: How many of us had actually completed a module of eLearning in order to learn something? Most of the senior people from these companies had never experienced the product!

The term eLearning also enjoyed simultaneous discovery. No wonder eLearning sprouted up in many places. Elliott Masie's bio says he is "acknowledged as the first analyst to use the term e-Learning." I have been credited with the first use of eLearning on the web. Six months after CBT Systems announced its transformation into SmartForce, the eLearning company , in late 1999, every training company with a dial-up connection and a web page claimed to have eLearning.
