The Learning Blockchain Emerges

CLO Magazine

Yes, we are talking about the potential use of the emerging technology of blockchains — focused on learning. My colleagues from Rwanda asked whether there was a taxonomy or numerical tagging system where every learning object, assessment and learning resource could be uniquely identified and accessed with appropriate licenses or authority. It requires a common and open tagging or numbering system that is then accessed by a range of commercial cloud computer processors.

Semantic tagging can improve digital content publishing

Aptara

Semantic tagging can improve digital content publishing. Authors, publishers and marketers today simply cannot afford to overlook the emerging trends and practices of digital content. One of the most important, yet frequently overlooked, cornerstones of effectively publishing digital content and media is semantic tagging. Semantic tagging can be used for digital content enrichment.". Semantic tagging for publishers.

The tribal web

Learning with 'e's

The tribes and clans I have identified, it could be argued, are emerging as a direct result of their sustained interaction with, and through, social technologies. When observed in its entirety however, the trails of evidence emerging on the Web can readily support the notion of the virtual clan. It should also be acknowledged that clans tend to emerge within tribes as cutural definitions and user generation of digital artefacts become more pronounced.

When they are first introduced to this environment, you could use AR tagging to draw attention to danger zones, and also to places where learners can go in case of an accident or emergency. What if learners could add course content by scanning and tagging items in the real world? AR can boost student engagement and help lessons be more memorable. For many educators, advanced educational options like those offered by full VR are still beyond their capabilities.

A series of such courses can be created and made searchable on the learning management platform through meta-tagging. With emerging technologies, it is now possible to deliver on-demand learning when and where the learner needs it the most. Learning at the workplace is a continuous process. While formal training also has a place, more and more organizations are aligning towards informal ways of organizational learning.

May Big Q: Workplace Learning Technology 2015

Clark Quinn

Virtual world standards are emerging too, and hopefully some convergence will have happened by 2015! People are beginning to take advantage of powerful content systems leveraging tagging and flexible delivery, but it’s still embryonic.

On the Horizon

What emerging/experimental technologies should learning institutions to take notice of in 4-5 years? Tagging tools. Right now, there’s a manual process of tagging or have software tag it (still cumbersome). Here’re mine: The ordinary: Mobile will emerge, not as a major upheaval, but quietly infiltrating our learning experiences. The extraordinary: Semantics will arise; we’ll start realizing the power of consistent tagging, and start being able to meta-process content to do smart things on our behalf. Over at eLearn Magazine , Lisa Neal Gualtieri gets elearning predictions for 2009, and they’re reliably interesting.

The push toward content curation

Litmos

One is to look for trends that emerge from the individual resources, changes in focus as things develop. I reckon this is a subset of "organizing," and you might find other organizing schemes such as value, or scope, or use, or… The task is to find meaning that emerges across these elements. Internally, it can be both collecting resources in a portal and tagging them with terms that will assist your workers to find them.

It is very easy to be misled by tagging benefits to qualitative improvements but let us say you will be able to get your budgets, the success. From Wikipedia: “A property of a system is said to be emergent if it is more than the sum of the properties of the system’s parts.&# fifth, what we call ‘knowledge’ (or ‘belief’, or ‘memory’) is an emergent phenomenon. Third, emergence, that is, the development of patterns in the network. Emergence is a process of resonance or synchronicity, not creation. We do not create emergent phenomena.
