Introducing the Social Intranet Index

E-Learning Provocateur

There’s a lot of talk about social intranets these days. But what exactly is a social intranet…? Everyone seems to have a different opinion, from a human-centred platform, to the intersection between portals, team sites and social sites , to a system that ties the business’s processes and data to the employee’s social behaviour. Foching up social media

E-Learning Provocateur

It’s alive and well in modern corporations, perhaps most conspicuously in relation to social media. Many executives still don’t “get” social media. Help them make the mental leap from what social media is currently being used for (at least in their world) to what it could be used for – particularly in terms of customer service, sales, marketing, public relations, communication, engagement, collaboration and innovation.

The 10 Commandments of Microblogging

E-Learning Provocateur

As microblogging solutions such as Yammer sweep across the corporate sector, a melting pot of social media veterans and newbies inevitably begins to boil. Some don’t even have a Facebook account, let alone Twitter. The point of an enterprise-wide microblog is that it generates value. Of course, I’m not going to pretend that social media veterans role model these 10 Commandments like modern-day disciples.

How to revamp your learning model

E-Learning Provocateur

I’m in two minds as to whether a full-blown social network is useful for internal learning purposes. E-Learning challenges in vocational education

E-Learning Provocateur

Yesterday I participated in an enterprise discussion panel at the eLearning08 conference in Sydney. For me, one of the major emerging issues in both sectors is the rise of Web 2.0. Working Smarter in Social Business

Jay Cross

To be successful, a social business’s learning function must break out of the training department and spread throughout the organizational infrastructure. Installing social network software and encouraging people to exploit their connections is only the beginning. The fabric of the social business must incorporate structures and guidance to help people learn. This takes more than access to social networks, blogs, and wikis. Facebook-itus.

A circular argument

E-Learning Provocateur

It’s Google’s trump card against the likes of Facebook and Twitter. The achilles heel of Facebook is that its friending system is binary: either you are my friend or you are not. Indeed, Facebook has a “friends list&# feature which allows you to filter your incoming news feed. Granted, I’m no Facebook expert, so maybe this can be done. But that’s the point: so much about Facebook is onerous and secretive.
