Thank You for Sharing: The Next Generation of Extended Enterprise Learning

Back in the day, we were all taught to share, whether it was a new toy, afterschool TV time, or the last piece of cake. That mindset is even spilling over into the corporate side of the business with extended enterprise learning. Extended enterprise learning is a hot topic in the L&D industry — and for good reason. Because of this, about one-third of organizations have extended enterprise learning programs. So What Is Extended Enterprise Learning Anyway?

My 2012 Enterprise mLearning Predictions Recap

mLearning Trends

As 2012 draws to a close, its time to evaluate how in focus my lens on the future of enterprise mobile learning proved to be this past year and how many of my year ago predictions hit their targets. Whatever it is, this one is music to my ears after many years of toiling away to make mLearning a reality for the enterprise. The first part of this prediction was “spot on” – enterprise workers are better equipped on the mobile front at the end of 2012 than they’ve ever been.

The foundations of innovation in L&D

E-Learning Provocateur

Futuristic hardware and magical software that educates everyone at the press of a button are tempting “solutions” Some folks call this mindset Shiny New Toy Syndrome, and by golly, it’s a pandemic. While reasons for the disconnect between idea and action in corporate L&D abound, one of the most insidious I think is a variant of Shiny New Toy Syndrome called Bright New Idea Syndrome.

Corporate eLearning Strategies and Development

iPhone moves into the Enterprise. So with all of these exposed APIs and code base, you will be able to not only deliver training, but you can deliver interactive training courses/content that are dynamically connected to your enterprise LMS for tracking. Now the iPhone is more than just a toy. Today Steve Jobs presented the iPhone roadmap. I'm "delayed" blogging, instead of live blogging. That means I'm blogging while I watch the video.

The History and Direction of Gamification

Your Training Edge

Perhaps one of the first forms of gamification could be noted as a toy introduced through the infamous Cracker Jack box way back in 1912. Source: Enterprise Gamification ( [link] ). A look back in the history books…. When you stop to think about it we have been playing games in one form or another almost since time began. The meaning and application of games has changed dramatically over the years and although the concept of ‘game’ is not new, the term of ‘gamification’ is.

Laura Overton: Are today’s L&D leaders sticking to the familiar?

Sponge UK

The process of benchmarking helps you to move away from the shiny tools and toys and reflect on what you can do to support learning more efficiently. Early findings from this year’s Towards Maturity Benchmark study shows that many L&D professionals have a hunger to modernise learning but a tendency to stick with the familiar. Since 2003, we’ve been tracking the extent to which our aspirations for an agile, flexible, technology enabled approach to learning have been met.

mLearning Tech A’plenty Released at CES 2011

mLearning Trends

In the midst of all the new 3D TVs, streaming home entertainment, futuristic toys and smart appliances, the primary market focus of this year’s show seems to be on mobility with smartphones, tablets and apps taking center stage in many of the main keynotes and featured front-and-center in larger vendor booths. And many of these advances drive the potential and increase the affordances of mobile learning and performance support across the enterprise.

Besides my Top 50, I’ve toyed with the idea of having a tourney of learning systems. Look around and you see folks trying to figure out who is better, who is the best. Sports? Yep, it is achieved via playoffs. Politics? Here in the states, it is called the primaries, then mid-terms (this year at least). Books? Top 10 lists from publications such as the NY Times. Land on that, and well, they say your book is a top seller, which infers one of the best. Sure, you can have upsets.

Extended Enterprises. However, many okay the majority of vendors who offer EE, can’t admit this to themselves and thinks everyone knows what this means and if you don’t then you are not seeking an extended enterprise. First off, a B2B can be an extended enterprise. I could be one person selling courses to clients – each a tenant or child (under parent/child relationship) and would fall under extended enterprise. I’m a big fan of fun.

Why the Modern Workforce Won’t Stop Craving Mentoring

It also contributes to the collaboration and diversity of ideas that Bersin reports creates a more empowered enterprise for the future. Remote meeting fatigue (yes, it’s real)

While all of these things may be true, working remotely during a global health crisis adds more to the scene; kids need help with homework, the cat has made someone’s charger a toy, and meetings and workflows may be interrupted by the dog barking at a critter outside.

It''s a mishmash of edtech, 80s pop culture, animated GIFs, retro toys, ds106 art, and all things cinema. Educational institutions have does this fairly well over the last century, and we need to continually push on how the enterprise of teaching and learning changes in relationship to the web and explore it. Recently on this blog I featured an interview with Martin Weller , one of the keynote speakers for EDEN 2015.
