The site lets you build simple surveys. Often there’s little concern about how relevant the information is to the learner. Thus the learner is usually not engaged and has to wade through a lot of information. This is something an information dump can’t easily do. I used Urtak to create an informal industry survey.

I usually get my images from Fotolio or iStockphoto but there are dozens of good stock image sites. The new Microsoft Office site has a lot of the same images you’d buy from vendors like Fotolio available for free. One of the things I do is subscribe to sites like AppSumo and Mighty Deals. You got over 400 poses for $24.

For example, here’s a simple demo where you have to make a choice between one of two offices. You’re sure to learn a lot by following this site. Pinterest UX board : various examples of UI and UX designs. Most of them are focused on web sites, but the principles are generally the same for elearning courses.

Linear courses are often the result of our focus on sharing information and not knowing how to move beyond this. Instead of pushing information out, create a way for the learner to pull information in. If someone asks how to learn more of something, we’ll point them to a web site or give them three good book recommendations.
