Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Describing What You Do: Instructional Design

Me: Im an instructional designer. Im sort of distracted by the naked boy who just ran by (not mine). I try not to use the term Instructional Designer as my opening line anymore :-) because, like you, I get the whats that stare. billbrandon had this comment on Twitter: I usually just tell em Im a writer. Cammy Beans Learning Visions: The Value of Instructional Designers

Learning Visions

We imagine providing the same tools to subject matter experts that we expect instructional designers to use, and asking them to be a one person show. In reducing the value of an instructional designer by handing them tools to be lone gunmen, we have created the problem of believing we can replace or eliminate the instructional designer, since our in-house resident experts can do the very same job. But Im not sure I can get people to hold their answers back.

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Learning Styles as Fortune Telling

Learning Visions

Im struck by why I find this topic so interesting. From the perspective of the adult learner, I think its appropriate to think of skill level in these terms: a novice might have a different "learning style" from an expert. Novices should be given less control, while experts should have more options and open navigation. And on that note, I think Im pretty much done now with my learning styles assignment.

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: The Big Question: Instructional Design as a Spectrum

Some instructional designers are trained in ID; some are subject matter experts whove been assigned a training project or see a training need. Im wondering if we should be talking about tiers of instructional design. Today Im feeling more like a hazy purple. Im wondering if in the carpentry example if a master carpenter would agree with you? Im sure a master carpenter wouldnt think so highly of the table I were to make should I take on such a project.
