Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Half of Companies Blocking Facebook

Learning Visions

Wednesday, August 22, 2007 Half of Companies Blocking Facebook Christy Tucker has been musing on Social Networking as LMS: Problems and Opportunities. One real problem is corporate fear of social networking tools. Im no Facebook super-user and I havent experienced a huge time suck from it, but I suppose its possible. But what information is it that is actually being "leaked" through Facebook by these irresponsible employees ? And Im in complete agreement.

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: My Second Second Life Experience

Learning Visions

At Virtual Learning Worlds "Bartman" responds to that Wired article (A Deserted Second Life) : The problem I have with it [the Wired article], is that it deals almost COMPLETELY with Second Life as it pertains to marketing and corporations…and inevitabley why SL sucks in that space. Theres a lot of things I still need to figure out with SL if Im really going to get into it, but I think there are some things that its just fine not to master. Im Bliss Yue).

e-Clippings (Learning As Art): Facebbok apps now work on other sites.what is the hard part to figure out here?

Mark Oehlert

A few weeks ago, a story came out about how Facebook will allow apps built for Facebook to work on other Web sites. We have intranets, we have time entry systems, we have our office productivity apps, we have our browsers, we have LMSs.the problem is that we dont use all these systems all of the time and even when we are using these systems, we are typically not using all the parts of a system every time we access it. Im asking this question fairly seriously.

We had a very hectic next year due to several unforeseen problems, but this was for the better. At mid 2007 we decided that it was time to open eFronts source and let other people contribute to the system - this strategic shift helped us improve the quality of the product and make it known to the learning community. The open-source community uses eFront Community; this is the suggested eFront edition for anyone having basic needs.

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Visual and Auditory Multi-Tasking

Learning Visions

Im not saying to leave the info a mystery; Im saying that Ive seen a lot of elearning that seems to underestimate the intelligence of the learner and makes every little thing painfully explicit. Im not sure what to make of it, honestly. Im way out of practice. Heres my simple interpretation: Participants were presented with two inputs/problems, one visual the other auditory.

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Second Life Backlash and Controversy

Learning Visions

And Im not implying that Im a Second Life naysayer. Steven Groves in the comments writes: What the Gartner report went on to say that you left out was a recommendation to continue on in a SL effort anyway, albeit with eyes open and cautiously, keeping a lookout for all the problems they cited. Ive been exploring the use of Second Life for a client for whom Im developing an e-Learning strategy.

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: With Community Comes Great Responsibility

Learning Visions

Im a touchy-feely-people-kind-of-person. My problem is I often forget to click the icon. Making the time to engage in conversations online does seem to move towards greater abundancy thinking and Im really enjoying the opportunities it is presenting. Im a little worried that my current level of participation is only enabled by the flexibility of the projects Im working on at the moment.

I have a problem, where is the answer? Marshall McLuhan) -- Im not trying to be a smarty-pants here, but I looked this up and Gary was close: "We look at the present through a rear-view mirror. Any LMS needs to have open-standards (not just open source) so you can take your content to another source. However we are suppose to locate an IT problem in order for our proposal to be approved. We could not find a suitable problem to address.

e-Clippings (Learning As Art): Does anyone else see "Student Records" in "Data Portability"?

Mark Oehlert

The Friend Connect feature on a site acts as a small peephole on a Web page allowing content from a preselected social network (including Facebook, Google Talk, hi5, orkut, Plaxo, and others)to be viewed within the predefined window. Players in this arena (although not exactly all in the same role or capacity) include Facebook Connect , the Data Portability Project (of which MySpace is a member ), and Googles Open Social.

Facebook Profile. So this is a shot from the opening session of Adaptive Paths UX Week. Right now Im sitting in the audience listening Deborah Adler, the designer whos Masters Thesis became the redesigned Target pharmacy bottles - Clear RX. I think the big take-away from this session is that she began with a problem, people taking the wrong medicine, and then selected as her starting point - the user - not the system. Open Source.

Problem Solving: what might we do proactively to meet needs in the field? Could you take a picture of a situation and upload it to someone to collaborate on how to solve a problem? Bring in collaborators to help you solve a problem? Im glad to be able to provide an accurate typing service for the general good of the e-learning community! Im interested in hearing more stories of how companies are implementing mobile learning.
