Social networking & the workplace

Dan Pontefract’s recent blog post on companies (not) allowing Facebook at work has prompted me to dust off the topic of how social helps companies get the business of communicating, collaborating and learning done – and hence the business of business done! Social is not a feature.

WARNING, social netWORK AHEAD

Learning Cafe

I’ve been reading with interest recent articles and blog posts proclaiming that social practices won’t work in the enterprise. Posts such as ‘ You ready to fail at social networking ’ and the excellent post from Jeevan Joshi ’4 reasons why employee social learning will fail at work ‘, have really made me think and reflect on the hype surrounding social business and more specifically the rise of social networks / communities within the work environment.

Product Review: Mindflash.com

eLearning 24-7

The product continues to add new features that overall are surprisingly solid. However, they continue to incorporate some instructor led training components, which is a disservice to an otherwise nice product. This is really a very nice and easy to use feature with the Mindflash product. One item that I found very cool with Mindflash is the ability to share the course via Twitter, Linkedin, Facebook and e-mail. The problem with Mindflash.com, it’s not.

Product Review. MyUdutu is the authoring tool that is free, with typical rapid e-learning authoring components but with a unique twist – after completing the course you can either publish live, publish to your LMS – zipped file via a SCORM wrapper or publish to Facebook. You heard right, Facebook. If you place it into Facebook, you cannot tie it back into your LMS; so you would have to use an API and create an extension from your LMS into Facebook for the course(s).
