Stephen Downes commented on my recent post - Personal Work and Learning Environments (PWLE) - More Discussion and said - I am opposed to the trend coming from the corporate learning side of the house to treat PLEs as work tools. What is it about people in corporate learning that they feel the need to perpetuate the attitude of servitude it seems all learners must adopt. Stephen's very much correct about a PLE being for the person.

A PLE that is 'inside the enterprise' is a contradiction in terms.

This got me thinking more about the words "personal" and "personalization". But that does not equal a Personal Learning Environment. And then my real life and learning begins.

There's some great discussion happening around the issues of control and resulting ownership of work product as we create personal work learning environments. Enterprises that love PLE's Cross battles Downes: is corporate learning corrupt? then shouldn't you make sure you provide these tools now rather than having tools adopted that are outside the firewall and personally owned where you will lose the content if the employee leaves
