Thus, while we are excited about wikis, blogs, discussion groups, etc., For us to be successful doing this, we first need to make sure that the system will work with whatever firewall restrictions exist. Elluminate did not work through several firewalls, so we had to switch to WebEx. The security issue not new.

From the previous articles written, I have stated that learning will have to fit the way we are sourcing information today – games, apps, wikis, social tools etc, have all developed pure engagement attributes, which creates that desire for more! Accessibility. This wasn’t really true though.

If an organization must secure themselves by putting up barriers, before erecting those barriers, other equally effective ways for employees to get their work done should be in place. Even a barrier as small as needing to sign into a firewall is big enough to make an employee avoid security measures. Working Around Legal.

You can’t use user generated learning for compliance training or security training. With compliance training and security training you have to be able to prove that your employees know the rules. Some companies choose to put a part of the material on their website or intranet or in a wiki. That is not secure!

1) Two issues that come up, at least in the world of training in a government environment, is that of a) security of information, and b) control of the information given to the learner to make sure it is accurate. Security of the information is something that hopefully your IT organization is already dealing with.
