Flash to HTML5 – Swiffy From Google

This has come just in time for mLearning implementers; there is a new tool out in Google Labs called Swiffy that let’s one convert flash animation (swf files) to a device independent HTML5. Simply put, this will allow existing libraries of flash animation content to be ported to devices that run iOS – iPhones, iPads, and iPods. We’ve been experiementing with Swiffy for a few hours now and it seems to do quite a decent job of converting SWF files.

While HTML5 may one day completely replace SWF, today is not that day.

Adobe RoboHelp: Embed Captivate HTML5 Output

Adobe Captivate 6 introduced HTML5 output, allowing eLearning content to be interactive on mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad. By combining Captivate's and RoboHelp's HTML5 outputs, you can easily support interactivity for iPhones and iPad in your help system. Currently only RoboHelp's Multiscreen HTML5 output supports Captivate's HTML5 output. Other outputs, such as WebHelp, only support Captivate's Flash output.

Smokescreen – The Future Of Flash Player?

Smokescreen project is an effort to bring Flash player to the iPhone/iPad without installing the Flash plug-in. It’s an open source project implemented in HTML5 and JavaScript. Adobe Captivate 6: Delivering Standalone eLearning Lessons

If the learner is going to access the lesson over the internet (either from a web server or an LMS), publishing SWF and/or HTML5 is the way to go. If you decide to publish a SWF, the learner will use a web browser to access the lesson. In what may be another boon for mLearning, last week Google released a beta tool called Swiffy , a free Flash to HTML5 converter. My first thought about Swiffy was that it would solve a LOT of the problems I hear with SWF content not playing on Apple devices like the iPad. However, I do think Swiffy will evolve and it won't be long before more elaborate Flash content (such as SWFs created with Captivate) will be easily converted to HTML5.

Oh, another key reason: the Ipad. I will not include the Ipad in this, because a)it is really heavy, b) too me it is more of a tablet, that will include e-reader capabilities.
