Recently, while speaking to customers, we encountered one of the primary issues that corporate stumble upon when deciding on HTML5 for pilots or technology exploration initiatives. Also, HTML5 is STILL NOT a standard, which is a big deal from a security perspective.

Users access their online learning several times throughout the day using different platforms. A recent change is important to note here was when major companies like Google, Apple and Microsoft phased out Adobe's Flash Player from their web browsers and opted for the open and mobile-friendly HTML5.So The shift from flash to HTML5 in web browsers means there needs to be a similar shift from flash-based content to content published to support HTML5.

I've been warning about this since January 2010 in Still No Flash , and called it out further as the signs became more serious in May 2010 with Beginning of Long Slow Death of Flash. My words then: We are hitting a tipping point where you have to question building anything that uses Flash as the delivery mechanism. In February of 2011, Mobile Learning and the Continuing Death of Flash , I pointed to the smart moves by Rapid Intake to work around this problem.

Adobe also unveiled Flash platform 10.1 Flash is the favorite delivery platform (development tool) for eLearning courses due to its huge install-base and ability to produce engaging content. Mobile device platforms are diversified – from screen sizes to the operating-systems driving the devices. Due to this (and some other reasons like processor capability, device features, etc), not all devices support Flash – neither within the web-browser nor outside of it.
