In the webinar, I brought up how LMS vendors were themselves perpetuating the myth of the bad things of social media (which is a necessary component of social learning), so, rather than identify the facts and data to potential clients who are concerned about social media and thus social learning, they instead do not include it in their system.

Some vendors push heavily on PPT, implying that a great WBT is really a PPT converted to Flash. Flash output – still red hot. In the latest podcast featuring Volkner Zimmerman who is on the executive board at IMC-AG, he explicitly states that HTML5 is necessary in any course output for mobile. Output to Facebook.

Innovation abounded and the push to focus on the “PPT to Flash&# angle continued to shine. You get the Flash code – YES – you get the code, which you can do whatever you want with it. iTunes, iTunes University, Facebook, MySpace, CD, web server & more. Import and convert PPT to the web, add rich media.

Interestingly, a large portion of LMS vendors have not optimized their products for the iPad/ iPad2 and with the exception of two content authoring tools, HTML5 capabilities, specifically the ability to output a course in HTML5 does not yet exist. Social media sites that focus on gamers are in the top twenty of most visited sites.

Samsung Galaxy S is expected to be the first real challenger to the iPad, it runs on Android OS, offers Flash 10.1 Again, the iPad runs with HTML5, not Flash nor Java. True, the other tablets and Samsung offer Flash 10.1 and Java, but they offer HTML5 too. Same issue occurred with Opera – used Flash and Java.
