Storyline wins because it provides three options with one publish: Flash, Storyline mobile player for the iPad, or HTML5. Lectora has always been mobile friendly because it never relied on Flash. Once again, Studio is a non-starter here as it is only outputs to Flash (but will output to HTML5 in v2013).

We saw that Storyline 360 can be used to develop good software simulations and online assessments. Engage 360 allows you to record and import video files; you can set videos to play automatically or incorporate Player controls. Flash objects and interactivities in the SWF format can be inserted.

We saw that the Articulate 360 component enables the development of high quality software simulations and e-learning assessments. Presenter 360 comes with an easy-to-use window that allows you to include navigation elements, branching, playlists, and Player tabs. Learners can be allowed to skip Player navigation.

Storyline is widely used to convert Flash-based e-learning content, which cannot be accssed on most Smartphones and tablet PCs, into the mobile-compatible HTML5 format. The software can be used to retain most effects of Flash. On the flip side, Articulate Storyline provides little support to responsive e-learning.

Studio ’13 is a very nice upgrade that features new Engage templates, additional quiz questions (including drag-and-drop), feedback layers, HTML5 publishing, characters, and a unified player, among other things. ( Studio ’09 could not output to HTML5, so it was a non-starter for iOS delivery. Software Simulations.
