A couple of weeks back we posted about Silverlight posing some (at this time, actually little) competition to Flash. Those of you have heard of HTML 5 will know it’s a new version of HTML and XHTML being promoted by Google and Apple in a bid to move the web away from proprietary technologies like Flash, Silverlight and JavaFX.

The Open Screen Project was started to help create a singular experience on multiple devices (using Flash) be it Computers, Mobiles, TV or Game consoles. Obviously, using Flash platform tools offered by Adobe. Also porting Flash runtimes on handheld devices has been made royalty free (which wasn’t the case earlier).

And most importantly – Flash support (rather the absolute lack of it). The eLearning industry thrives on Flash and without it how do I even present the great stuff we create to prospects. I have failed to understand reasons behind Apple’s continued ignorance of Flash. Personally I was really disappointed to read about iPad.

Adobe recently released eLearning Suite 2 comprising of Captivate 5, Flash Professional CS5, Dreamweaver CS5, Photoshop CS5 Extended, Acrobat 9 Pro, Presenter 7 (available on Windows only), Soundbooth CS5, Bridge CS5, Device Central CS5 in it. Flash CS5 has many new features. Again here’s a short video –.

With increasing bandwidths and better compression techniques available, use of videos in Flash platform based eLearning courses is on the rise. Before using videos in your Flash project, you would need to encode them in a format compatible with Adobe Flash (FLV or MPEG-4). However, often we find videos not being used optimally.
