E-learning Development: Selecting the Right Audio, Video, and Image Format

CommLab India

When developing an eLearning course using rapid authoring tools, you should know which format is supported by the tool to import audio files, videos, and images. So to get a clear picture, let’s see the various formats supported by Adobe Captivate 9, Articulate Storyline, and Lectora 16. In Captivate 9, we can import only these image (Shift+Ctrl+M) formats: JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, ICO, EMF, WMF, POT, POTX, and PICT. Video formats include AVI, MOV, MPEG, WMV, ASF, and FLV.

Reducing File Size for E-Learning Media

E-learning Uncovered

For example: we recently completed an e-learning course on disaster relief with photos from the organization’s public relations department. Imagine building an e-learning course with dozens of photos this size–the course size would cause all sorts of problems with the students. Optimizing your graphic, audio, and video files will help reduce the size of your e-learning courses. Don’t leave it all up to your e-learning authoring tool, though.
