Like many organizations, we have to take compliance training. And when I heard we had a 3-hour harassment course coming, my first emotional response wasn’t positive. Why do I shudder thinking of taking a 3-hour e-learning course? Boring E-learning Has Always Existed.

The Rapid Elearning Blog. Escape from Compliance Training Jail. Every two years I take my car in and have the emissions tested. The goal of the test is to certify that my car meets specific emissions standards. If the car passes, I am certified and I can move on. However, if it doesn’t pass, then my car has to go under a different series of tests (and perhaps repairs) to get up to the appropriate standard and certified.

Because of this you end up using the same stock photos over and over again. The stock characters are treated like a team of improv performers. One day they’re all compliant managers and the next day they’re those dreaded sexual harassers from the cubicle down the hall. However, you can run into issues with the image quality and who can and cannot be in the photos. Stock photos also raise the issue of representing diversity.

USERS care about their learning, but they don't go to their training department to get it. The driver is NOT learning or people development, it's 'fear'. Remember, governing bodies don't know what effective training is nor do they care.
