Encourage employees to read these books and host book clubs to encourage discussions on what people learned and how to apply what they have learned. Tap into social software apps. Need informal learning software? There are vendors selling very good software. Rather than spend the money upfront, start off by using using free social software services like Yammer or Social Text or Wikispaces.

We culminated the day with a live radio broadcast for Sounds of the Bazaar , hosted by Graham Attwell and Josie Fraser. There is much talk about all things social software, and the noise is drowning out the music on the speakers. It has been an interesting and varied day here at ALT-C 2008. Mark van Harmelen and George Roberts were interviewed, as was George Siemens. I presented my Hooked poem and George also added one for the cultural corner section of the programme.

I'm going to be speaking on transformational change in education, and will touch on social media, new teacher roles and a host of other related topics in my own keynote on Wednesday afternoon. And when it comes to new and emerging technologies, there are still many barriers up against using social software - YouTube is filtered out, yet contains some incredible learning opportunities for language, music, history, science and sport. Noted main difference between main stream media and social media. Social media enables everyone to publish/access info inexpensively. Organizations are just beginning to use social media technologies and few are using the social learning technologies available in their LMSs.
