Look today, at the number of folks who still hang onto ILT. It was clear that not even LXP vendors (as a whole) knew – which explained why they targeted L&D, ignoring the other monster in the room, training. LXP vendors loved to push the notion that LMSs (the dominant learning system type) only provided formal learning.

While I am sure that occurred at WOLC, the ones I gazed at, which were presented by vendors, had no sales pitch whatsoever, rather it was all about a specific subject tied to e-learning. I know a few vendors who had multiple meetings each day with potential clients – and the ones I am referring to where LMS vendors.

They involved talent management, “hello and goodbye” with vendors, social learning, upswing in mobile learning, new feature sets in the authoring tool space, flat lining in web conferencing and standalone platforms. Expect a few commercial vendors to jump into the augmented reality space for e-learning.

Collaboration – How much longer are AT vendors going to push this out as “new”? Lots of Templates – No longer satisfied with ten, now many vendors are offering extensive list of templates. HTML5 output – Any vendor that doesn’t add HTMl5 output should be green with envy. Right now, not amazed.

The minus: vendors come out of the woodwork to tell you their system meets those needs. No vendor could say honestly that their system is the best for you, because they are missing a lot of information. Write vendors’ names on pencils and throw them at the ceiling. Whichever sticks – is your vendor.

How many of you have seen vendors respond to your questions? A: Virtually every LMS vendor out there in the marketplace provides these features. Congrats, you are probably looking at less than 10 (based on my LMS directory which contains 475 vendors). Smart App for TV – One LMS vendor. SCORM/AICC/PENS/IMS.

Sure, other vendors will say you can do that too, but you have to open each object file to get it. Many vendors hyping PowerPoint to Flash angle as key feature. 57% offer a trial at various length, this is significantly higher than any other e-learning tool with over 40 vendors in the market. Who has time? SAAS based.
