Y R Some Vendors confused about e-learning?

eLearning 24-7

Are there vendors in the e-learning space who lack basic understanding around e-learning? Lastly, if the vendors, organizations and firms whose whole background, expertise and existence is tied to e-learning and they themselves are not fully understanding it, does this bode well for the industry as a whole? (I’ll I always tell vendors that they are supposed to be the experts and not the people inquiring about the information. .

Answering your LMS Questions

eLearning 24-7

How many of you have seen vendors respond to your questions? A: Virtually every LMS vendor out there in the marketplace provides these features. Congrats, you are probably looking at less than 10 (based on my LMS directory which contains 475 vendors). Custom domains – rather than have yourcompany.vendorname.com, some systems are now offering custom domains so that your learners see whatever name you create.com and remove the vendor name.

A Look Back at 2020 for E-Learning

eLearning 24-7

From a vendor perspective there was a huge impact, but what was odd, is that some vendors still are living in the past, as though, this is a minor blip, and in 2021, everything will go back as it was – corporate wise that is.

One Step Behind

eLearning 24-7

The vendor? Trust me, students would find it significantly better than the synchronus based experience that is still being used. Basically the synchronous approach is in essence, shoving ILT online with some discussion threads, whereas the end user enters in some text, others respond, and they hope the instructor is active in the experience (many are not). Trust me, they implement such technology and the masses – i.e. consumers, i.e. your customers will follow.

Rapid Content Authoring Tools 2010 – Innovators, Winners and Updated Trends

eLearning 24-7

Sure, other vendors will say you can do that too, but you have to open each object file to get it. Many vendors hyping PowerPoint to Flash angle as key feature. Courses appearing in the market in a linear fashion, a result of people entering the space from a ILT background, it fits under this category, because vendors are not explaining the non-linear nor the true essence of WBT of courses.

ATD ICE 2016 – Post Review

eLearning 24-7

I saw a lot more folks than in previous shows and more e-learning vendors too. Equally there were several ILT vendors who had some type of online learning thing going on. Still there are plenty of hold outs on the ILT side, especially those creating “leaders” or developing coaches. Trust me, you can do that stuff online and it can be way better than just face to face. Vendors were in the basement. The vendor?

EdCast vs Degreed vs Fuse – The Analysis

eLearning 24-7

How do you explain why these three vendors were selected, how the process for analysis was conducted, and what are the results? Why these three vendors? From the vendors themselves and even in conducting my own research into vendor comparisons. This is for virtual ILT.

LMS or LXP – Confused?

eLearning 24-7

Sure a vendor can say we are an LXP, but a LMS too or vice versa. LMS vendors on the other hand are adding LXP features, to counter, and in some marketing may note, learning experience blah blah. . One vendor Linkedin Learning bases it on everyone in the system, regardless if they work at your place or not. Trust me, I’ve seen better in some LMSs and learning platforms. . And to be fair, a chunk of LMS vendors aren’t either.

Learning System Mkt. Forecasts

eLearning 24-7

I am confident that there will be people out there in the net screaming “Obvious” or some other spin, but trust me, when I say, that with the exception of two forecasts, the rest of them are based on trend lines, which started at the beginning of this year. This line not only is continuing, but you can expect to see a lot more vendors reducing their price per seat/per year in the coming months. Forecast #3 – ILT is replaced with Digital Coaching.

Best Content Awards 2020

eLearning 24-7

In other words, some vendors say our content is micro and each piece is three minutes long. With vendors pushing micro-content you rarely see a TOC (Table of Contents), which is very doable, and honestly better for the learner. Trust me, it is nost a challenge. Welcome!

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: Mindflash.com Version – Product Review

eLearning 24-7

Terminology – The use of ILT (Presentation, Slides, Trainer, Trainees). T/F – it is a staple in the industry; trust me – not everyone loves M/C. In the Mindflash.com experience frankly this is not happening when the terror of ILT rears its ugly head online. ILT does not offer self-pace nor self-control. I have found that once people see that how it differs than a ILT course, they love the jumping around angle. I love Halloween.

Mobile Mania – The Latest on M-Learning

eLearning 24-7

To boldly go where no e-learning vendor has gone before, specifically LMS vendors who are now starting to get it. . Responsive – Talk to any LMS vendor (okay, a large swath of them) and they will tell you they have responsive for mobile. . A vendor can do this without having a native app. Vendors seem enthralled to show this to folks, even if you tell them you know what it is. . An overwhelmingly number of vendors do not support it.

I know you are saying to yourself, well they are a LMS vendor in e-learning so they must rock on training. Although after talking to several vendors, irritation seemed to be a part of their response to me. Estimate 55% e-learning related content, including e-learning vendors and ILT vendors who added a “virtual training” component as part of their offerings. To me, many more LMS vendors than in the past, especially some newbies I’ve never seen attend the show. Expo vendor pick up in terms of leads and traffic. The same for vendors as well.

Can you recommend an LMS?

eLearning 24-7

Vendors saying “have you looked at XYZ” (which is their system). plus all the vendors will be found in FindAnLMS), I do have systems I can recommend based on various criteria. Folks seem fine with the vendor noting how awesome their support is, without extracting any metrics or verifiable data. . And I ask it often when talking to vendors. I have asked vendors to complete a Support Card , and many have. Perhaps you have to someone you know.

The Rants – Marketing Buzz and.

eLearning 24-7

A press release from an LMS vendor that stated something not so accurate, but accurate enough. Course Marketplace as “System includes and or offers content” This is in relation towards learning system vendors, especially in the LMS, learning platform space and not so much LEPs (although some could do a better job at stating it in clarity). . And that is what the vendor is going for. Vendors are acutely aware of the difference between free and paid content. .

Turn Training into a Profit Center – Here’s How

eLearning 24-7

Here is a list of the ways to generate revenue with B2B/B2C, regardless of your brand name or lack thereof, in other words, it doesn’t matter if you are small or mid-size or super large or an association or initially all ILT with your clients, and now need a new way to make money. Charge for webinars – The days of a hybrid model where you did ILT (seminars) and did some webinars (via web conferencing) are gone. L&D. Training.

How to buy the LMS you want

eLearning 24-7

It should come to you, even before the vendor’s salesperson has picked up the phone or sent you that proposal. Hope that the vendor puts it in that calendar/fiscal year? This is saying, when you are putting down and thinking about future features, ask the vendor what is their roadmap for 2015. Any vendor should be able to tell you that. For me, it always told me if the vendor I was exploring was in alignment with what I was seeking in a forward thinking partner.

This isn’t the same as a user case study you see on vendors websites (which btw are nothing more than marketing materials wrapped up in a “research” like angle. Of the 35,000, 15,000 of them are taking two ILT courses a month. We want them to continue to take ILT courses, but register online and take at least one online course a month. Of the 35,000, 15,000 of them are taking two ILT courses a month. Trust me, you want one.

ATD2015 Conference Post – Review

eLearning 24-7

But trust me when I tell you this, that it has no bearing on my thoughts of this year’s conference, because overall it was the best one ATD wise that is, I have ever been to. That said, there were some hiccups and from an entire vendor wise (expo here) angle, some unique and some, uh. I can honestly say, the ATD show is changing from ILT driven (it has always been that way) to e-learning improvement. Vendor Time – Vendor Time. Vendors of Intrigue.

Courseware LMSs – Good or bad for the industry?

eLearning 24-7

Maybe you scored it via Wiley, but in many possibilities you purchased the content thru your LMS vendor. It’s much easier than say going directly to the content provider, buying it from them and then having them talk to your LMS vendor to put it in for you (which, honestly you should do, because it will save you money). What if instead of focusing primarly on the LMS, you went courses first from a vendor and in return got the LMS for free.

Doing all of the above through classroom (ILT) training can quickly get overwhelming. Wanted – Instructional Designer

eLearning 24-7

How many of you, have experience in instructional design but only from the ILT or paper-based perspective? Trust me, they will either get it or not. Vendors such as Articulate, have told me that they see PowerPoint as an authoring tool, which would explain why they use the term “slides” in their products. A thumbnail which vendors will use in their products as a form of a mini-preview is not a slide either. Talent.

E-Learning Strategy – The Right Way to Success

eLearning 24-7

Why, when our ILT has been so successful? It can be pie in the sky thinking, but at least you are thinking about it (and trust me, it can make a big difference). If you are moving from ILT to e-learning, then increase your user base. After all, e-learning opens up a lot of doors for you, more so than just ILT. On a side note, some vendors call it “virtual classrooms” Do you want to track your learners?

Step right up to the LMS Sideshow

Act 2 – Select only a vendor who is well known (name recognized). What it does mean, is that the vendor is strong in marketing and getting their name out to the general public. Trust me when I say this, someone out there was the first to use Cornerstone OnDemand. Classroom management is a mix bag, since some folks want features within it, some don’t want or need the classroom management, which is ideal for ILT. Hello, hello, hello!

Scenario Based Learning, The Time is NOW

eLearning 24-7

This isn’t a “let’s just put some text on this screen, with a graphic or video OR in this is a video here and …” – That is the old way of building courses and let me tell you on behalf of all learners – it is boring, and trust me when I say this, its a factor on why people do the click-click-click approach to taking your course. The vendors who build 3rd party content can help here. It’s An Amazing Course.it is an awful course.

Why You Should Embrace The Gig Economy For Strategic Advantage

EI Design

Practitioners, leaders, and vendors should consider how they can best leverage this new take on employer/employee relationships, labor structures, geographic proximity, and employment options to capitalize on a global pool of talent. They turn into a one trick show— videos or simulations or ILT, for example—with rarely any crossover or blend. Build Gr8 Micro-Learning Course

eLearning 24-7

One well-known vendor told me they want people who are brand new to online learning course building, or if you think of a triangle, the bottom of that pyramid. People coming from ILT who have never built an e-learning course. I want to scream to every rapid course authoring tool vendor who does NOT have a “how to” create online learning course eBook or guide. Which in this case, are the majority of vendors.

Customer Training – Best Practices

eLearning 24-7

Perhaps you have been hired or been asked to develop a successful customer training program and while you have experience on the ILT side of the house, the whole e-learning angle is another matter. With the growth of chatbots, and with some vendors planning to include them (a mistake IMO), frustration can be expected. Trust me when I tell you this, but people will buy your product – from around the world.

What if….? (E-Learning)

eLearning 24-7

What really bothers me more so, is when certain learning system vendors tell me they do not offer social or NexGen functionality because their clients either do not want it or because of security concerns by the client. Trust me, if the game was boring, you won’t even use it. And I equally agree that many authoring tool vendors do not provide tutorials on how to build a course (not just how to use their software). But there are vendors who do.

LMSs that kick ass: Mzinga

Janet Clarey

Mzinga’s second Social Learning model, the “Amazon Model,” is broader in scope; much like Amazon.com, it involves closely wrapping social media and networking around a particular item—in this case, any kind of formal learning within our LMS, from curriculum, certification, courses, and simulations to ILT, virtual classroom, assessments, surveys, and off-the-shelf content. It’s Friday yay! That means it’s time to feature another LMS that kicks ass!
