Cammy Beans Learning Visions: e-Learning Content & Version Control

Learning Visions

Wednesday, August 01, 2007 e-Learning Content & Version Control Earlier this week, Janet Clarey wrote about the " Preservation of e-Learning Content." After reading Janets post, I talked with our CTO about some ways that we could build a little bit of "version control" into our Flash Course Development Templates. More likely, if they dont have version control tools, its because they havent even thought about it. I suppose most LMS/LCMS keep track of versions on some levels.

LTI (Learning Tools Interoperability): One of the Features of a Good LMS

TOPYX LMS

Learning Tools Interoperability is a specification that was developed by the IMS Global Learning Consortium. In either case, the process might take months to complete and would probably need to be redone for each tool and potentially redone yet again when software is upgraded to a new version. . In the initial stages of choosing a learning management system (LMS), people often wonder what the features of a good LMS are.

3 reasons your LMS should be LTI-compliant

Rustici Software

The IMS Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI®) standard prescribes a way to easily and securely connect learning applications and tools with platforms like learning management systems (LMS), portals, and learning object repositories on your premise or in the cloud, in a secure and standard manner and without the need for expensive custom programming. See all of the IMS-certified LTI tools here.

Real (e)Learning Heroes

Several other initiatives include IEEE (which is pretty much the US based effort on electric and electronic technology standards to the international stage), and the IMS efforts from academia. The Department of Defense’s ADL initiative decided upon a version, to move things forward, and thus was born SCORM. While there are people who claim to be leaders in elearning (and some are), there is another whole group who flies under the radar.

The IMS Global Learning Consortium has announced the release latest version of the IMS Learning Tools Interoperability Specification – Version 1.1. This specification provides a way for courses running in IMS-conformant Learning Management systems to securely access remote content, tools and services, and receive back user’s results. Perhaps the unintended consequence of the IMS LTI 1.1 LEARNING REACHES TO THE CLOUD.

Creating Reusable Interactions

Vikas Joshi on Interactive Learning

When working with pre-built IMs, your focus is on selecting the right IM, customizing it using your content, and finally adding it to your course. The larger the library of pre-built IM's you have access to, the wider your choice, and the more you are likely to find one that exactly fits your need. Then you end up with multiple versions of the program, and that is a nightmare when it comes to bug fixing. What are Interaction Models?

A developer’s reflection on learning the LTI standard

Rustici Software

It wasn’t long before I realized there was a lot of information to take in—the difference between platforms and tools, the single and multi-tenant integration models, the various versions of the specification, and the security implementation details associated with each version. With the platform vs. tool distinction in mind, you’ll need to decide which version(s) of LTI to support. It’s also important to note that though versions 1.0

SCORM vs. LTI: what’s the difference?

Rustici Software

It stands for Learning Tools Interoperability and it is a standard created by the IMS Global Learning Consortium. There are technically five versions of SCORM : SCORM 1.1, All of the different versions of SCORM govern the same two things: packaging content and exchanging data at Run-Time. Governance: LTI is created and maintained by IMS; SCORM by ADL.

Semantic Interoperability

Experience API

There’s a strong possibility that collaborative work between ADL and IMS could help a great deal. Not only is there a profile in our Registry , there’s also a Community of Practice still working on a version. If there are multiple working versions of what data to capture, then how is a reporting system attempting to derive meaning about “video” supposed to do so? You’re going to hear us talk a lot about semantic interoperability this year.
