SCORM and Learning Object hype

eLearning Evangelist

I've been watching this concept develop since the early days of the IMS. I had an interesting conversation with an industry representative on the IMS Council. If SCORM is hype, the concept of Learning Objects is bigger hype. Again the promise of Learning Objects is that anyone will be able to assemble a course like building a house of Lincoln Logs. I'm most interested in learning object granularity.

Why an LMS Needs Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) Functionality

TOPYX LMS

There is no company leader that would not like his or her employees, volunteers, and members to have better online learning experiences. After spending considerable money and effort launching a learning management system (LMS) or other eLearning platform, organizational leaders want users to be delighted with their eLearning experiences. Thankfully, a type of technology called Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) was designed to ensure superior online learning.

But if your platform is primarily used in the corporate space, you might not be familiar with LTI or even know how it can help enhance your learning product. See all of the IMS-certified LTI tools here.

What is a Learning Management System? (2019 Update)

Docebo

Today’s enterprise learning strategies require smart solutions that go beyond the capabilities of traditional tools. A Learning Platform empowers L&D departments to drive business growth through their efforts, and a key pillar of this solution is the Learning Management System (LMS). To understand how a Learning Platform will help improve enterprise learning objectives, you must first grasp what an LMS is, why it’s an essential tool, and how to get the most out of it.

Open Source Authoring Tools for e-Learning

eFront

eFront News from the e-learning frontier 10/17/2010 Open Source Authoring Tools for e-Learning As an e-Learning consultant I always was fun of open source software. In this post I am not going to talk about open source learning management systems such as eFront [1] but rather dedicated open source "authoring tools". Resources authored in eXe can be exported in IMS Content Package, SCORM 1.2, or IMS Common Cartridge formats or as simple self-contained web pages.

Sigh.will someone in Learning/Training Field Just Please Rip This Off?

Mark Oehlert

We've stopped using Learning Objects right? Look to where your people are already using tools, maybe as pedestrian as IM. OK so seriously. Cause they're about as real as mean unicorns. Now, as an industry, let's get into some serious theft. Saw this article in TechCrunch , about Google firing up chatbots again. . This time the Google bot is named Google Guru and is available to any chat service linking to Google Talk.

AICC and SCORM Compliance: The Benefits for Your e-Learning

Trivantis

The Benefits of Making Your e-Learning AICC and SCORM Compliant . That’s a bit like what was happening in the e-Learning community before SCORM was established. In the late 1990s, each learning management system had its own proprietary content format, which encouraged vendor lock-in. You had to use that vendor’s tools to create e-Learning that worked with that LMS, or your content wouldn’t play. Today, SCORM is the de facto standard for e-Learning interoperability.

Now that I posted about Better Questions for Learning Professionals , I've been receiving questions via email from a variety of people. Here's a recent one to get me started: Is it mandatory to use SCORM while developing an E-learning Software?
