According to this article in the Washington Post, the BBC required Real to produce a version of its player without ads. You could use any of the many authoring tools, such as Authorware, but you needed an appropriate player. With the advent of Flash, many authoring tools started creating output that could be played by the Flash player, which meant you didn’t need special software to use the courses (if your IT org would support you having it). In addition, IMS has released a specification for activity very much like xAPI, called Caliper.

Should your learning game be highly realistic or completely abstracted from reality?

Karl sites statistics that "Seventy percent of the players of the social interaction game The Sims are women under twenty-five," and that the number one game from May 2004-July 2006 was Princess Fashion Boutique. Im concerned that women will be excluded if such a focus is put on gaming skills -- or at least the gamer label. Im just raising some questions.

Cammy Beans Learning Visions: Writing Less Objectionable Learning Objectives

In video games, players often have the option of going to a screen to see the objectives, goals, and tasks for a ceratin level and that doesnt diminish the experience of the game, just like a link to objectives wouldnt diminish the learning. Belatedly, Im thinking that there are relatively easy ways to enable learners to have cake or to eat it as they see fit. Im not sure I suggested writing WIIFM learning objectives, but they probably have their uses.
