As a vendor, you can demonstrate leadership by seeking clarification. LMS buyers don’t evaluate software vendors on product features and functionality, alone. I recently reviewed a global rollout proposal with license pricing of about $250,000, and a disproportionately low implementation cost of only about $35,000.

Especially the LMS vendors who also create custom content/development. That some vendors who provide a list of clients may not be clients of their LMS, rather they are current or past clients of custom course development. For the vendor to achieve success in the demo.

Bewildered on what is happening, why what is needed isn’t appearing as it should, and how is it possible that something so obvious based on where e-learning is heading, mobile is pushing and future tech is inspiring is lost among so many vendors? Confusion leads to flushed in terms of causation that some vendors in their infinite wisdom have decided it is better to jump one way than stay the course. I am still surprised on how vendors who are offering assessment only tools are staying in the game. Some vendors push heavily on PPT, implying that a great WBT is really a PPT converted to Flash. The latter is slowly gaining speed, which is an advantage to LMS vendors who have a CAT in their own product – which is SCORM,PENS/IMS compliant. One vendor focuses only on Blackberry (not just Playbook but their smartphone like product). Vendor adoption is slow.

One vendor with 750 users, priced out at nearly 24K a year; another close to 11.5K – thus depends on users is a factor. If you are an e-learning vendor exploring the SBM do not take them lightly, a few are slowly entering my 2nd trend. LMS vendors are targeting companies who have distributors/wholesalers/resellers/sales agents/etc. Marketplaces & Exchanges by LMS/Learning Portal Vendors. Integration with WebEx (separate license required). It is truly amazing on how vendors seem to think lots of stuff on the page, is the way to go and navigation is just a requirement. Thus, from the end user – learner perspective it can be non-cluttered and thus a greater experience in terms of finding information quickly and going there equally quick – time saving and again, a great feature. Why vendors still think this is not needed or used, makes no sense.

The bridge has to be installed and integrated into the computer – web conferencing vendors should and some do, recommend that the bridge setup is handled by IT/IS personnel. I know of vendors who offer the capability of editing the audio, before it is posted, regardless if they are using VOIP or not. There are some web conf vendors that enable the capability, that when the attendee registers, they can select Outlook or Gmail and have the event auto scheduled.
