Studies going back to the 1970s have shown that people simply can’t pay attention and retain information over long periods of time. In fact, most people can pay attention for only very short periods of time and then they need to use the information somehow or it will vanish from their working memory. These small chunks make it easier for learners to absorb information and give them the opportunity to reflect on it and consolidate it into memory before moving onto the next chunk. MORE

I recall a conversation I had last year with some folks from Articulate who informed me that PowerPoint is an authoring tool. Strange, since I could find no evidence, no information from multiple research standpoints, that Microsoft pitches it an authoring tool. A smattering of keynotes and sessions When you’re exhibiting in the expo it’s a bit hard to partake in many sessions, but I did get to jump into some of the keynotes: really great stuff by John Seely Brown ( my blog attempt here ), Byron Reeves on Engagement and Marcia Connors on the new social learning. Couldn’t stay but will definitely look for their slide deck. His slides should be up soon on the DevLearn site.
