Use of PowerPoint in rapid content authoring tools – this has been a big irritant of mine, since the days when PPT first made its appearance in rapid content authoring tools. Some vendors use chapter-page approach with PPT, but there are plenty who do not (why?). Even with just content only – like PPT or video files.

The two biggest negatives IMO, is that it just isn’t robust enough for e-learning developers and its whole focus on PPT into converting to a course doesn’t help. No e-learning developer or instructional designer would ever say “slides” If they did, they would have to walk the plank. Yeah, people love it.

I work as an instructional designer in southern Brazil. Since I have a tablet with the tablet OS, I can write in PPT. Adobe Photoshop Elements is also an option and less expensive than the full version. Whatever you do to your graphics or PPT file do not change the player template scheme. Keep the secrets coming!!!

During production I have multiple versions of the files, which is fine. It makes it easy to locate and not have to dig through all of the versions and duplicate files. In PowerPoint it’s in the “ppt” folder and in Storyline it is in the “story” folder). Right-click and select extract.

I think that the better versions of these courses likely contain a nugget or two of information that the students may have forgotten.
