Cam Studio is a free open source screen capture and recording tool for Windows with the accolades to back up the hype. Other options to consider in your search include: Jing by Techsmith. Okay so the name leaves a little bit to be desired, but rest assured that this program is legit. ScreenCast-o-Matic.

While Jing has been my go-to option for quickly responding to questions, Camtasia does seem to offer more polish.

Jing is a screen-capture and screencasting tool that I’ve mentioned before. The basic version is free and I can’t say enough about how much I love Jing. If you want to get fancy, there are a few YouTube-like systems you can set up at your organization to house video: PHPMotion (open source) and ClipShare are two examples.
