These networks were not well connected and contained mostly weak ties. The networks that best exhibited the small-world property were those that had the greatest success. Before that, we need to examine what are some of the characteristics of today’s workplace, especially those that depend on knowledge workers for success.

Bill Ives argues that his own blog is really a vehicle for managing his own personal knowledge. But somehow he doesn't get that blogging is a fantastic networking tool.

Eg some can ask questions and harness a network. There are also several studies of knowledge worker practices that suggest that a lot of what is effective is quite personal. If you are really good at searching on Google, then you may not leverage your network even when it's very much called for. Great points.
