As citizens, PKM is part of our social responsibility; we should be learning about issues together. Social bookmarks are an easy first step–lots of people can have a purpose for this. Social bookmarking sites are less often blocked by corporate firewalls.

There's been a long running discussion around what Knowledge Management is going to look like going forward and whether big systems that manage knowledge are going to be there. Structure would come from a layer on top such as social bookmarking and digg, and, of course, from search across unstructured content. There would be tools like social networks that would allow us to find people inside and outside the enterprise.

However, there must be a better way, so we reach for alternatives to training, such as knowledge management, performance support, enterprise 2.0, collaboration, and/or social learning. I started using del.icio.us and Yahoo MyWeb to save bookmarks - locally saved favorites seem rather limited now. Retooling my knowledge I've been paid to be a CTO type consultant on a broad range of topics. And if you are talking Reusable Learning Objects, Courseware Templates, Tracking Mechanisms, Content Management, etc. Instead, I now need to get smart on things like community, networks, personal knowledge management and other such topics.
