PWLE Not PLE - Knowledge Work Not Separate from Learning

But, too much structure is not going to work. To me, it does not make sense to look at using one environment (an LMS or PLE) as part of learning and another environment as part of knowledge work.

Informal Learning After his questionable call on levels of instructor-led, classroom training in the future, Saul then tells us… More flawed than the analysis of the numbers is the proposition that formal classroom learning will be replaced by informal learning, which will primarily occur online through blogs and social computing tools. As compared to today, there will be greater emphasis on support for informal and social learning in the workplace. Network Learning?

Distractions and reflections

As I previously mentioned , social networking could support virtual mentorships, and tweeting I think is more immediately tied to a person’s current state, while blogs are more closely tied to their longer-term thinking. I still argue that one of the best investments that can be made is reflection, particularly for knowledge work and any individual or organization that needs to not just survive but thrive in the growing flow of information and chaos.

2008 in retrospect

Next year, I intend to start making the world a better place, and that’s going to take more oomph, focus, and work with others. We are in the midst of a great transition to an era of networks and service. Networks enable direct, static-free, one-to-one communication. Knowledge workers have replaced factory workers. Information spreading through network connections empowers workers to make decisions and take responsibility for them.
