To me, this is a critical part of The New Skills for knowledge workers. And what I often cite as the biggest change in knowledge work skills over the past 20 years is the change in access to people. During this week's course, one of the more interesting things was seeing one of the members experience - My Real-Time, Real-Life Research Project (Using LinkedIn and Ning). And I just learned about ning for the first time yesterday!

Using SharePoint for Event Planning & Organizing Just like we used a Wiki one year and Ning another to support the online conference LearnTrends , SharePoint can be used to manage all types of events, especially internal events. Possibly its smarter use of Outlook that's the intent from a Microsoft vision of supporting the knowledge worker. I've been having fabulous conversations about using SharePoint.

Mercenary Rationale for Network Work & Learning As I discussed in Evaluating Performance of Concept Workers , evaluating the performance of a concept worker is difficult because there's no right answer and most often the evaluator knows less about the subject than the worker. Thus, the bottom line in evaluating a concept workers performance is by looking at: Was a reasonable process used? How would this compare to results from other concept workers?

I often find that Ning isn't that great for specialized content.

In terms of finding people with experience on this, my first suggestion was using LinkedIn and particularly looking through LinkedIn Guide for Knowledge Workers , LinkedIn for Finding Expertise , and Searching for Expertise - LinkedIn Answers.
