I, however, think a little learning is a wondrous thing; it can addict you to drinking deep at the Pierian Spring, that is, at wanting to know more and how to do more. Bit of a problem sometimes;->). While I didn’t totally depend on the kindnesses of students, I was encouraging social learning in my classrooms, not just because it was a trendy pedagogical approach, but because it helped me where I worked!

Over the last few days I’ve been working through Stephen Downes’ paper Learning Networks and Connective Knowledge. Think multimedia learning, Clark & Mayer’s “ELearning and the Science of Instruction.&# ) But their methods could (at least sometimes) be right even if their explanation of the underlying mechanism is wrong. We may contrast cognitivism, which is a causal theory of mind, with connectionism, which is an emergentist theory of mind.
