One of the papers I will be presenting in September is entitled: "Learning Space Mash-up: Toward a Collaborative Personal Learning Environment". It will be presented in the special track on Mashups and Education at this year's Interactive Computer Aided Learning Conference , which as usual, is held in the beautiful Alpine town of Villach, in Austria. PWLE Not PLE - Knowledge Work Not Separate from Learning

Mohamed Amine Chatti (a fellow Eddie eLearning nominee) last two posts The LaaN Perspective , and Requirements of a PLE Framework are both interesting posts and worth reading. His requirements for a PLE Framework include: Personalization Social features Social filtering I ncorporate various Web 2.0 concepts and technologies (mashups, widgets, aggregation, OpenID, RSS, etc.) The concept of a Personal Learning Environment Framework gets it even farther from some actual system.

Peak practice

I have made it up over the Alps by train into the sleepy Austrian town of Villach, where we hold the annual Interactive Computer Aided Learning Conference (ICL). Every year the ICL conference seems to be veering more toward e-learning and away from computer science, which I think is a good thing. We need to concentrate more on the learning and less on the technology - more on the pedagogy and less on 'this is the technology and this is what it does'.

Personal Learning Knowledge Work Environment

Tony Karrer

I've been reading a lot over the past few months around Personal Learning Environments and a lot of related material. adoption is getting folks to manage their personal knowledge and adopt practices like blogging for personal knowledge management (PKM) and personal learning. Learning-Knowledge-Work - they really are the same and I need to do them all at once. So, any suggestion on what the name for this system (or environment) should be?

Can anybody hear me?

I walked back up the stairs to my desk for a quick cup of tea before the session started. It's a movement against the commoditization of learning and against corporate profiteering. 2) Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) and in particular Learning Management Systems (LMSs) contribute toward restrictive practices in education and constrain both learner and teacher to operate within a model of learning that is insitutionally beneficial, but does little for the learner themselves.

Noughties. but nice

The first decade of the 21st Century was highly significant for personal learning. If we time jumped from then to 2009, the way we now communicate, learn, search for information, share content and consume entertainment would be unrecognisable. The concept of personal learning environments was also introduced, as a counterpoint to the notion of the VLE. We will then see how these can be applied to enhance and extend the personal learning environment.and of course.
