Introduction

My post this week is a roundup of great stuff I’ve encountered on the Web lately related to learning about learning. Read on for information about two free conferences, 12 book recommendations for 2024, and L&D’s role in closing the gender pay gap.

TLDC's Women of L&D Conference

It’s that time of year, folks! Time for The Women of Learning and Development Conference hosted by The Training, Learning, and Development Community (TLDC). It’s happening the full week of March 25.

This free annual event holds a special place in my heart as my introduction to TLDC a few years ago. Speakers for the week-long conference include Kimberly Goh, Connie Malamed, Megan Torrance, Christy Tucker, Kim Scott, Bela Gaytan, and many more amazing women in L&D.

Women are leading the event, but that doesn’t mean it’s only for women. Everyone is welcome! And did I mention, it’s FREE? (If you can donate $20, please consider paying for a ticket to support TLDC.)

CDC Small Business Training

If you have a small business and are interested in working with the federal government, check out the free Small Business National Training Conference from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The conference is happening on April 2 and 3, and you can attend in Atlanta or virtually. On April 4, they’re doing virtual matchmaking sessions. Although I’m not exactly sure how it works, it’s supposed to allow small businesses to connect with larger companies looking for subcontractors (and vice versa).

Connie Malamed's Book Recommendations

The eLearning Coach herself, Connie Malamed, recently released her list of 12 Books for Instructional Designers to Read This Year. These books for learning about learning come from industry leaders including Julie Dirksen, Clark Quinn, Megan Torrance, Guy Wallace, and Cara North. I don’t know about you, but I’ve got some catching up to do! My TBR (to be read) list just keeps getting longer.

L&D's Role in Gender Pay Equity

If you’re familiar with The Inclusive Learning Pledge, you know I believe that we in L&D have a critical role in leading diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. (If you haven’t signed it yet, I hope you will!) So I was pleased to see an article from Training Industry on this very topic. Heather Chapman explains how L&D Holds the Key to Solving the Gender Gap in Blue Collar Work. It’s definitely worth the read!
