Product Review: Saba Social

I admit that in general I have been underwhelmed in the past with Saba. A LMS whose UI is poor, ease of use not there and questionable feature sets and service. So, when I went and checked out Saba Social, Saba’s new social learning platform, I had very low expectations.

LMS Products of the Year 2010. I include Learning Portals, LCMSs, as part of the mix. Big Dog (Saba, SumTotal, Plateau, Cornerstone OnDemand, Learn.com). Open Source Systems – That have to be 100% free to be considered. Extended Enterprise – System must have e-comm, multi-tenet – fully skinnable, additional functionality. Big Dog LMS. Saba. I like this system and its functionality in comparison to the other players in this space.

Latest E-Learning Trends – Some good, some bad

A trend that is happening in the LMS market more so than in the other e-learning markets, is the failure to follow their path of success. This isn’t the case with a LMS product geared to small business or associations, for example, who land a large client or two, and then say to themselves – ah, we can compete, so lets focus on that. People in the booth that actually know the product inside and out – I’m surprised on how this continues to be a problem at a lot of e-learning shows; some companies stock their booths with people who are very nice, but really do not have any knowledge on the product, beyond what they read on the product sheet they are handing you. hey it is a Mashup of Emotions! Estimate 55% e-learning related content, including e-learning vendors and ILT vendors who added a “virtual training” component as part of their offerings. To me, many more LMS vendors than in the past, especially some newbies I’ve never seen attend the show. An ILT product that has so much e-learning potential and recognized it as a possibility down the road – I respect that! : ). E-Learning 24/7.
