It does seem like such a large number, but when you realize that there are over 1,300 learning systems around the world, 85 isn’t such a big number. People always inquire why I like one system over the next, and how their system (if they are a vendor) is not on the list or if a customer, how the system they purchased is not on the list. Yesterday eLearning Guild announced their Member's Choice Awards for Learning Management Systems (LMS). Now I don't normally get very excited about LMSs but these awards attracted my attention, because in amongst the Sabas and the SumTotals was little ol' open-source Moodle: Award for market share - Small and Medium Corporate Learning Management Systems - Platinum award: Moodle. Top 50 LMS Report for 2016 – What you need to know (criteria, approach, and yeah some vendors)

In a little over two months, my 2016 Top 50 LMS Report will be available for purchase. Even open source systems. I identify the Big Dogs as SumTotal by Skillsoft (yes, that is the actual name), Cornerstone OnDemand, Saba, SucessFactors and Oracle Taleo (although, I ask myself who is using this and if you still are why?). But, they do use modules (so you can buy learning for example, and then down the road or at the same time performance and so forth). .

Now this deal makes more sense as Saba continues evolve beyond its Learning Management Software (LMS) roots (Saba recently bought THINQ) by rounding out its services offering. Plus Saba + Centra creates a US$100M revenue company which is not too shabby!
