Development Tools - Should I Cut Out the Middle Guy?

Back when I first started developing e-learning courses, I used Macromedia's Authorware. Over the years, I have used ToolBook, Trainersoft, and even Dreamweaver with Coursebuilder. The learning interactions can be used for multiple types of quiz questions that will be tracked by a learning management system (LMS).

Keeping Up - April's Big Question

When I do find interesting tools I will keep track of them using my Delicious account. So, I browsed "Tools" by keyword on eLearningLearning. I also like to make occasional visits to Google Labs and Adobe Labs to "keep up" with the tech tools they are working on and to test drive any beta versions available.

However, it all settled down to roughly Toolbook, Authorware and IconAuthor. Do you ever plan to track it in an LMS? When CBT (CD-ROM based multimedia training) came out, there were a lot of different authoring tools and approaches that came along with it. I used to love these tools.

Authoring Tool Trends for 2017

Similar to the one I had for an LMS, here is the Authoring Tool version for 2017. Direct integration with an LMS, whether it is via an API (most likely) or some other fashion. . The big item to remember here is that it will be a separate license or licenses to use the authoring tool that is directly integrated with the LMS.

You want to implement your courseware to the SCORM standard if you plan to have it launched and/or tracked under an LMS. One case is building a one-off course that needs simple tracking/reporting and will never run under an LMS. In these cases, I'm not tracking and likely it's not under the LMS.
